That I did know (Sean Baker is the future of storytelling, BTW... tell your friends!), and it’s kind of my point: when a colourful, funny movie with trans women won’t get a wider release than that (even with the backing of a capable distributor like A24), it doesn’t exactly encourage a bigger studio to cast an unknown…

Worst-case scenario is that a very mainstream actress brings trans people to a segment of the population who don’t really understand what a trans person is. Trans representation in film is pretty much nil, so (for now) getting a trans story told in Hollywood could be considered a small win. and perhaps opens the door…

But her name will draw an audience. A lot of that audience will turn up just for the curiosity of her physical transformation (do you think that ‘Monster’ would have done so well if it hadn’t been a gorgeous actress playing the unattractive Aileen Wournos?).

Her last movie made TWO BILLION DOLLARS. I’d say you’re in the minority here (and that’s fine, but your point makes it sound like we all should be like ‘hmm, who is this actress again?’).
