...but I’m in the grays. OK.

I’ll watch just about anything that looks interesting, and have definitely enjoyed plenty of flicks that critics dismissed. But beyond a shadow of a doubt, I’ve discovered more movies that I love after seeing critical raves than audience raves.

I thought we were talking about the validity of critical opinion vs. audience opinion. That’s where we started, at least.

Guilty on the straw man.

But if you HADN’T SEEN THE PIROUETTE YET and were pondering whether you should pay money to watch this hypothetical girl do her pirouette, you might ask: hmm, is she any good? Is this pirouette worth $12?

In this scenario, you’re someone interested in watching a quality pirouette. One that’s well-executed and is fun to watch. So listen to the ballerina! And sure, maybe it’s fun to watch someone wipe out while doing a pirouette every now and then... that’s the ballet version of “The Room” :)

He said ‘a critic’, not “The Critic”!

Sure, art IS subjective... to a degree.

For the most part, they are. We accept “listen to the professionals” as good advice in so many other industries, but entertainment critics get dismissed because everyone thinks they can do their job.

I think the idea is more that “if you marry, you’re expected to have sex” (kind of the reverse-engineered version of what you stated, I guess?). Which seems reasonable, particularly if the couple were having sex before marrying.

I feel that the line between artist and hillbilly is being blurred here.

Spooned if he’s lucky. Forked if he’s not.

Don’t forget #4

Really? I thought it was because the Philly PD had to grease everything up to keep the fans off when they’re rioting celebrating after the games.

Hereditary.

I’d say that it does. Aside from being legit scary-as-hell, it’s amazing on a technical level. Beautiful production design, very unusual score and sound design. And it’s not in a rush to get to the scares a la studio horror... it’s not slow, but it takes its time to earn the thrills n’ chills.

I’m in my forties, and like you, find it increasingly harder to get a scare as the years tick by.

You are very, very wrong.
