Because there are very nearly zero accessories for iPhone 5, and there's an adapter that lets 30-pin ones work?
I didn't realize that the purpose of the Lightning adapter was for use "with accessories that you already have" and not for accessories that you might buy in the future.
While logistically sound, that plan would prevent seatmates from boarding together, which would certainly cause discomfort amongst some folks.

My guess is that by the time this thing is ready for market, it'll likely have been supplanted by mobile versions of those apps that will allow you to snap a picture…
