I think the accurate description is, “McGregor goaded his fans into creating a market for a fight that could pay Mayweather $200+ million.”

Nope. Clearly it’s the death of Charles DeGaulle. “Tay suis Charlie”
Yup you definitely met Matt Stafford.
Howland definitely needs to get involved next season, but I really hope we get a Bran flashback to the tourney at Harrenhal and see when Rhaegar catches and unmasks the Knight of the Laughing Tree to be Lyanna.
Off a tee I think is the key here. Here’s Harry Kane in tennis shoes comfortably drilling from 50 last month. He hits it like a soccer ball. I’m assuming a kickoff-type run-up is allowed as well. Remove those two factors and it gets significantly harder. Since the other scenarios are “try until you get tired” I’m…
Uhh, TOB’s point was that the guy couldn’t hit the homer without training, and that it’s pretty much impossible to “luck into” a homer. That’s very relevant to the conversation. What you said was not relevant, in multiple respects, so I pointed that out in case you were not aware of what the question being asked in…
If they’ve never played baseball before I don’t think it matters. Strength and hand-eye coordination are very important in hitting a baseball, but without good swing technique you are not getting a ball out of a major league park with a wooden bat. Hitting the ball hard and hitting the ball with the necessary launch…
Like you said, both professional athletes, and both have baseball backgrounds. Weber played until he was 16. Crosby once pitched a no-hitter as a kid and played baseball in high school (actually with NHLer Jack Johnson). So these weren’t just guys picking up a bat for the first time and hitting dingers.
Fair enough. It is just pretty annoying to see people continue to ignore two of the largest factors in the debate - wooden bat + no training - and bring up aluminum bat homers or say “Well someone can’t learn to be taller but they could eventually learn to hit a homer with the proper training.” You trotted out both.
This would win easily. Little sport called soccer.
He played baseball until he was 16 and is a world-class athlete. He’s 6'4" and can probably dunk as well.
He “lucked into it” after 3 years of playing college baseball.
The number of people who have the physical potential to, at some point in life - with extensive training, hit a home run in a major league park with a wood bat is much, much higher than the number of people who can dunk. But you could not luck into a homer at a major league park with a wood bat. If we are talking no…
For someone who doesn’t think that leaping ability can be increased, the jumps you are making from “played little league” to “hitting a major league home run with a wood bat” and “solid contact” to “over the fence at a major league ball park” are pretty enormous.
“with no preparation” = “with no practice”
I love that your prerequisite for hitting a homer out of a major league park with a wood bat is having played little league.
Were you using a wood bat in high school? If you weren’t using a wood bat, your comment is irrelevant. Additionally, there is no training involved in this scenario. That’s what “with no preparation” means. Reading can be difficult sometimes, but it is necessary.
I am ashamed to admit just how much we did do exactly that.
Majored in accounting, and went to a school where all degrees came with an accompanying PhD in drinking. I’ll take the challenge.
