While that absolutely sucks, since they are part of an organization with a hierarchy, legally they don’t have a leg to stand on. The Archdiocese outranks them and probably legally owns the building, not the nuns.

I am not sure people use it in college courses, but I know it is used in a few courses offered by NGOs in Rio and in Bahia for sure.. so maybe!

She published through an NGO, but I don’t think it is still printed - just archived in several black consciousness NGOs here in Brazil.

My mom wrote a book on Yoruba syncretic religions (in Brazil, but she also went to Africa, Louisianna, and Cuba for research) and she said it was mostly accurate. Like, more accurate than the L&O episode about it decades later or any other Hollywood portrayal...

I call all these people just “relative”. My husband is one of those people who has lots of complicated “relatives”. Like, the children of his half-sister’s half-sister are “relatives”. Easier that way.

That one eyebrow, right?

I see him as the young man in Parenthood... and that almost stops me... but then doesn’t. But then makes me feel guilty.
