If you think of the progression of soccer->rugby->football, rugby makes perfect sense. It has vestiges of soccer and early football was pretty much rugby with stoppages of play and blocking.

Great point, but almost all tries at high level rugby are team tries. The team aspect is implicitly acknowledged by the fact the try got nominated. The try scorer will also give his team cheers at the post-game drink.

I'd say ball security will not be that much of a problem. One reason he (and any good rugby player) holds the ball away from the body is keep the opportunity to pass open and keep defenders honest. They still tuck when going into contact. Easy fix.
