I follow baseball pretty closely but not the Phillies in particular. I thought this dude was the guy that built the 2008 title team. I thought he was riding on the coattails of that championship all of these years a-la the later years of Joe Dumars being GM of the Pistons. If he wasn’t involved in that championship

I have, and I still think Kasich is an asshole. He tried to completely destroy labor unions in Ohio (much like what Scott Walker did in Wisconsin but it didn’t pass) as well as almost totally stripping government funding to public education. A TON of public schools in my area have had to pass huge local property tax

John Kasich is not a strong candidate, he is a fucktard. Take it from an Ohioan, you do NOT want this man running the country.

Attention bars with “dress codes”: fuck off.

Starting 6 for 10 this season on FGs obviously isn’t ideal, but Scobee is a good kicker. Maybe I’m biased as a Jacksonville fan, but he was always really dependable and I was sad to see him go. Pro-football reference says he is 80.8% for his career and a really nice 26-42 on FG attempts of over 50 yards.

Papelbon is a rental who, now that he’s been suspended for four games, will probably never pitch for this team again. If I’m a teammate of Harper’s that plans to be around with him for a few more years, I think it does good to show him that you have his back in a situation like this.

No, but none of them really jumped to Harper’s defense either. If I were in that dugout and some asshole that we just rented for 2 months who stole Drew Storen’s job (and fucked EVERYTHING up in doing so) were to put their hands around the throat of the kid who has been in here busting his ass carrying us all season,

I find it interesting that two former players who were thought almost unanimously to be great managers-in-waiting by people in and around baseball (Matt Williams and Brad Ausmus) are going to be fired from their first jobs by about this time next week. Will either one get another chance?

It’s fucking Spurs what do you expect?

In the world of stadium/arena operations (which I work in), what’s “allowed*” and what actually happens are two VASTLY different things sir.

Maddon didn’t say the concert-goers screwed it up. I imagine the stage set-up/tear down process and the vehicles/equipment required for those tasks did a number on the condition of the field. This is far from the first time a manager and/or player has complained about this sort of thing.

“As you can see in the video below (which you gotta watch on Youtube since Ligue 1 hates you)...”

I was at that game! What happened was Magglio Ordonez hit a HR just inside the LF foul pole early in the game and he stood at home plate watching it (just to see if it would stay fair, Maggs was never a showboat) and on Ordonez’s way around the bases Weaver was talking mad smack at him. Guillen (one of Maggs best

Joe Montana was not drafted in the 6th round.

If the mediocrity of just getting there is the goal then the Clippers the last few years under Donald Sterling must have been well-run too!

That part about Dalton may be true but it’s the same thing as in the NBA maybe they need to bottom out to get a draft pick to replace Dalton. Staying the course isn’t going to work.

I watched Hard Knocks the year the Bengals were on it and to me it seemed like Mike Brown was basically Jerry Jones without all the “America’s Team” fanfare. He thinks he’s the GM, holds all the final say on roster moves, etc. Making the playoffs 6 times in 12 years is better than a lot of other teams can say.

I can’t believe I left out the Redskins and the Browns kind of go without saying. I included the Bengals because when I think of shitbag owners Mike Brown pops into my head pretty quick.

Are these (Samson & Loria) the same idiots that let their GM fire Mike Redmond and hire himself as the manager? I know there are a few candidates for worst owners and for most poorly run organization in pro sports (Knicks, Bengals, etc.) but the Marlins are up there.

This is good for him, because god willing, he’s not going near the mound any time soon.
