You are completely right my friend. I think the public's sentiment for small, cheap and efficient cars will eventually turn a corner, but it will take a severe increase in gas prices.

The real question is, are today's consumers interested in a stripped down, lightweight and low powered car that can hit 50-60mpg? I know us jalops might line up for a cheap, bare bones new car for $8k, but will the general public accept something without bluetooth and facebook, and power windows and locks?

The ST is 5 doors, not sure if we do have a non ST 3 door. My work has a fiesta, and surprisingly it actually drives fairly well

I can't endorse this comment enough. The only VW I've ever had was an MK4 VR6 GTI and I can't say I've ever considered a VW since. My gti was fun enough, but the problems piled up and repairs seemed to be much more expensive than on any other car I had owned up to that point.

That thing is what ever the british equivalent of being riced out is. Paint is all one color, lose the huge wheels, and make it RWD while you are at it.

I used to think these were so cool. But the look has been absolutely ruined by the fact that cheap cars come standard with these, and cheesy wannabe owners tack these on to their car in an attempt to make it look good.
