I knew I was unlikely to sway him, he’s set in his (inaccurate) beliefs...but if there’s a chance I can help some other reader better understand the problem with his argument I’ve done my job.

I feel so bad for him. He has so much he wants to give to the world and the world seems determined to stop him from working.

At this point into the series, I seriously doubt that it takes that long for the writers to get things just right, or that they even need to make revisions.
