I do believe you’re disregarding some major facts like hardware limitations. If I recall SF II required more memory than your average cartridge which was why the game cost more and is an entirely justified reason for charging extra.

I revisited QFG when it came out on Steam. I did the Paladin thing myself because I had always cheated myself out of that path by picking thief and getting a point in magic to break the game wide open so I could use any solution available for solving puzzles which barred me from the possibility of playing a paladin.

The fighting game DLC is actually a major problem for me. It feels like a case of cut content, the fighters you used to unlock through gameplay now sold piecemeal.

“The joy of movement” is a term I came up with to describe why Spiderman 2 was such a good game despite most of what made up the game being nothing exceptional. They nailed the webslinging and will always be remembered for that.

The Animus is easily the worst part of the games. The movie version may be a better visual but is extremely stupid.

The Megaman series is missing something of the joy of movement you get in something like MegamMan X. It’s so deliberate in every movement that it can be hard to enjoy.

Or God forbid you played Demon’s Souls and got to the end only to have the boss wreck your levels with one of his attacks called something like “fuck you!” or at least that’s what I yelled each and every time it landed.

It really doesn’t come down to what people are more interested in. I liked Red Dead and I want to see a better version of that but I’m more interested in Cyberpunk 2077 despite still having barely played Witcher 3 because they have a solid reputation and I have a fascination with Shadowrun.
