I missed the QOTD, but let me add another suggestion to the list. I currently can't drive because of a broken leg, thus have had to get rides from friends and family for the last month and a half, which has given me plenty of opportunity to critique all of their driving (silently, of course, I'm not going to be a

Yeah, this. It all comes down to driver education. If all drivers were taught about zippering, there would be less irrational road rage at merge points. Kudos to MN. I wish more states would make an effort to teach people about this.

I think that it is important to point out one nuance to the rule, though. If traffic is slowing or stopped, then you hold your lane and zipper at the merge point. If traffic is continuing to move at its regular speed, though, you can merge as soon as you have a safe opening.

Absolutely this. An "eco" car that people can actually get excited about. I think that it will turn out to be a very significant car.

So if you already have that information, why not share it with us?

Um... okay? I never said anything that contradicts that. You are reading things into my comments that just aren't there. I am very aware that class warfare is real. I am very aware that it is being waged from the top (and everywhere else too, for that matter). How does that change the fact that, until we have

No, see, you have that backward. I was pointing out that, without that information, the conclusion that most people on here are drawing is not justified. Just because I don't have the statistics myself does not mean that their cognitive leap is any more reasonable.

Thanks! It has been a tough month, but I am finally starting to get back into the swing of things. It is nice to finally be able to get back on Jalopnik, but I guess I didn't pick the best way to reintroduce myself :P

Sorry for trying to elevate the level of the conversation by seeking to get some actual facts and comparison points introduced, so that we can all have informed opinions. I am fairly confident that the facts would indeed show that this kid got off easier than most. I just think that it would be productive to

You are reading way too much into my comment. I am not defending the kid, or saying that race or class didn't play a role. I am just pointing out that we haven't actually been given sufficient information to come to that conclusion.

BTW - I don't doubt for a second that there are serious inequalities in sentencing based off of both race and class. That does not, in and of itself, mean that this is an instance of it though. I am not, in any way, defending this kid or arguing that his sentence was appropriate - I would love to have seen him get a

I would love to see this little fucker be tried as an adult too. Again, though, I wonder how often that happens under similar circumstances in Texas (I have no idea one way or the other, I would be fascinated to see some statistics).

I would be glad to. Care to post some links to the best ones, since you appear to be intimately familiar with them?

Before we all get too bent out of shape on the "rich kids get off, poor kids go to jail" narrative, does anyone have actual statistics about what the typical punishment is for a 16 year old drunk driver that kills someone in Texas? Do those kids actually go to jail most of the time, or are we all just making wild-ass

Yeah, and regardless of how unlikely it is, this has got to be one of my favorites. That 442 is just pure awesome.

Fun fact about the lede picture - the planes in the middle have been chopped up with a massive guillotine, as part of the US's obligations under the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty to lower its fleet of nuclear bombers. The planes are then left out in the open like that for a period of time, so that the Russian spy

Neutral: I am not sure that there is too much that can be read into the ST sales. It is the new kid on the block, and therefore there is a lot of interest. I would be surprised if those numbers/demographics continue. If VW hadn't been selling the GTI here for the last 10 years, and then decided to bring the MkVII

I don't know the answers to your questions, but am just replying to promote the question.
