I simply cannot comprehend how the designers at Toyota decided to put those on there. It is their top of the line trim, with some pretty decent equipment that is actually quite useful off road, and then they go ahead and put wheels that just scream "poser" and ruin the whole thing. There was a point in time where I

Yeah, I'm not sure if that is the way that it came, or if someone rebuilt it at one point, and just reassembled it that way. I'm not entirely sure that it matters. Either way, it doesn't seem to be causing me any problems at the moment!

But do you think that he would have been getting significantly better mileage on the same commute with a Wrangler or an H3? You can't compare an FJ Cruiser to a Rav-4 and expect the mileage to be the same. If a truck is going to have actual off-road ability, it is going to have tall suspension, big, heavy knobby

Yeah. The problem with the FJ was that it was more of a caricature of a off-roader, than an actual off-roader. There was still plenty of functionality there, but it was plainly obvious that whenever the designers of the truck had to decide between functionality and styling, they always chose to go with styling.

Um... the biggest criticism was the MPGs? I've never heard of that. The mileage of the FJ Cruiser is terrible compared to what, a Prius? No shit. Compared to vehicles in it's class (i.e., off-road capable SUVs) the mileage is pretty much par for the course.

The U-joints on the front drive shaft are definitely out of phase on my truck. The rear appears to be parallel.

Ha. Thanks. It is so rare that I actually have something moderately intelligent to add to the conversation around here! Enjoy it while you can. Tomorrow I will be back to the usual programming of droning on endlessly about my love for Land Cruisers, whiskey and mountain bikes...

To make matters worse for the doctors, I am willing to bet that their med mal insurance carrier is going to argue that this was intentional misconduct, not negligence, and therefore they are not covered under their insurance.

LOL.

Cool. I'll try to take a look when I get home.

Agreed 100%. It will be fascinating to see how this case plays out - because it seems like there are a number of different ways the courts could take it (none of which seem likely to change the fact that all of the defendants are probably going to lose big time, though). It almost reads like some sort of hybrid

It's not malpractice, it's battery. Malpractice is where a medical procedure is negligently performed. There is nothing in the story that indicates that the procedures were not performed correctly, there simply was no consent for the procedures at all. Performing a medical procedure on someone without consent is

Agreed.

ERs are subject to EMTALA, which compels them to give emergency care to anyone needing it, regardless of immigration status or ability to pay, but aside from that, I have never heard of a law that compels a hospital or physician to provide any care. I certainly have never heard of a rule that requires a physician or

Sodomy laws may still be on the books in many states, but they are no longer enforceable. The Supreme Court declared them unconstitutional in Lawrence v. Texas.

Wait, you are saying that in Texas they issue warrants that state that any medical professional that the police choose is legally obligated to perform a blood draw on the suspect? I have never heard of such a thing, and am having a hard time understanding how it would work and how it would be legal. Do you have any

Yeah, it may not be easy to find a deal quite like mine, but with some persistence, you can usually find one for pretty cheap. It helps that the FJ55s aren't as desirable - no matter how shit-boxed an FJ40 is, it is usually no less than $3k.

Volvo 240 has to be the top answer. My friends and I actually did buy a project 240 recently. It was $600 and ran and drove. There were a bunch just like it on CL at the time too, all right around $1000. I can't believe how cheap and easy to come by they are.

Yep. The car had been sitting for a while, so it needed a carb rebuild to get through emissions, and the rubber fuel tubing was pretty cracked, so I replaced that too, but otherwise, it didn't need a thing. It ran like a champ. Those Toyota 2F engines didn't get their reputation for nothing!

Edit: What the hell again, Kinja? Where did the rest of my post go?
