IMO, it comes down to which you prefer. Both are surprisingly quick, luxurious, and can haul a lot of people (6 or 7 seats) and stuff.
My Honda Fit only cost me CAD$4000 plus tax and it has been reliable and gets good gas mileage.
Used to drive one of these - great choice. They’re quite roomy, and also decently fun to drive. Significantly more entertaining than a Prius. I think I averaged about 43 MPG.

With that kind of annual mileage he needs something older with low mileage. Either sacrifice the cargo capacity or the gas mileage. You can’t really get both in something reliable. Drive it for 2-3 years, and then replace it.

The newest ones are just turning 5 years old now, but this was the first thing that came to mind when he said fuel efficient and capacious. You can definitely get a high spec 2017 Prius V ‘Five’ for $25k.

Yes they are, but thee trunk space goes to exactly zero with the top down. We looked at these hard before we picked up a Lexus IS350 convertible. While the trunk space isn’t great with the top down, it’s huge compared to the Infiniti.
