Dear Literally Anyone Who Ever Makes A Batman Film In The Future,
No one is surprised that it’s bad. What is surprising is just how bad it is. The bar was set so low with MoS, it's almost impressive to see it moved so much lower.
Ah. Thank you for the context. I was unaware of the rest of the threads.
Totally agree. “It’s just a comic book movie.” is every bit as terrible as “It’s just a kids movie.”
OP also conveniently forgets that comic books, supposedly, are all about “the story.”
“I’m sorry, but as an artist and writer myself that mentality really pains me. I wish less people had that mentality”
“Like, turn off your fucking brain and enjoy the superhuman slugfest for what it is, and then turn your brain back on afterwards.”
“What do you do during the parts of the movie where they’re focused on the plot or setup?”
I’m with you. I can go along for the ride on a lot of things, but the “turn off your brain” mentaltiy just leads to bad movies—and a willingness to go see bad movies. And spend money on bad movies. And encourages Hollywood to make more bad movies.
I completely agree with him. I find that there is so much pseudo-intellectualism when it comes to discussing movies now days because so many people want to view the entire movie industry as the height of artistic expression. An industry that produced the likes of Sharknado, and Zombeavers, right.
Have to agree with you.
Oh I get that mentality. Some movies I ID as “popcorn flicks” No real content, just spectacle. I can give them a lot of leeway on being stupid.
But some movies even fail at being interesting in that regards. You can expect less from an action movie and still have standards for them. Some movies are just painfully bad…
Well said — that kind of nonsense leads to every single film being a Transformers sequel.
“We go to watch them to see beautiful people doing all sorts of crazy super human shit.”
Personally, I go to the theater to be entertained in an audiovisual way. Look at it his way, watching an action movie in my 40" TV with just a stereo speaker is definitely a much lesser experience vs watching at the theater. But if I watch a good drama/comedy, a home setup is capable enough of conveying the movie. I…
Thank you. It’s sad that comics still are looked upon as a medium considered “kiddy”. I dare anyone to read Spiegelman’s Maus and recommend it to children.
feel the same, people watch dumb television, dumb movies, turn your brain off so that the garbage goes down easier....guess what its still garbage...
DC just doesn’t seem to understand that superhero movies are very much allowed to be fun.
Not disagreeing with your point but honestly fast and the furious and transformers have made entire franchises, sadly, off just visuals
