There's a great solution for when you're got thoughts keeping you awake. Use a smartphone to listen to interesting but not overly exciting audiobooks. That'll distract without shining light in your eyes like reading.

I'm interesting in trying it—perhaps with a new Apple-branded combo keyboard/trackpad with the features of the new laptop—but like others I wonder if it's a bridge too far. You can clutter a UI with too many ways to input as easily as too few. Steve Jobs may have been overdoing with his one-button mouse obsession, but

I accomplished the same thing by putting a $3, multi-LED light I had lying idle in the USB port at the back of my TV and directed it to bounce light off the wall behind. Adapting generic products is almost always cheaper than buying a speciality one.

Lifehacker's hackers don't seem to get out much. Obama's "success" has been marvelous for the Republicans. They now control more government offices at the state and local level than at any time since the 1920s and control both houses of Congress by wide margins. They've got an abundance of young, vigorous candidates

There's a simpler solution. End DST by voting out all the state politicians who vote for it. It really is a bad idea, one that should have been abolished when we quit using candles for lighting.

Yes, but for a 10-12 year old boy, it's loud, powerful and thus delightful. It all depends on how well they're taught and what safety features the lawn mower has. Some will shut off, for instance, the moment that boy takes his hand of the push-bar.

Your cell phone probably has a timer that would work as well and be far simpler.

Never forget that removing one can be a hassle. Choose carefully what it looks like (or says) and where it's placed.

I'll repeat the safety warnings at the close of the article. Be very careful with circular saws. They can do a lot of damage in a split second.

Users might want to check out Loyal Books, which often has Librivox recordings in more listening formats than its source, including a downloadable M4b you can put into most audiobook players.

Oh, I don't want to block it. I want to find one place where I see that dress as black and blue. Everywhere I see it in the original form, it's white and gold. I feel like a mutant or something.

I agree with robogobo. Here is Wikipedia's definition:

Thanks but no thanks. I write, which means I sit more than is healthy. I don't want to fill my life with automation, particularly not lighting fixtures or thermostats I can control from my iPhone. My light switch is about 10 feet away. The thermostat is about 15 feet. It's good for me to get up and walk to them.

Particularly for those with limited budgets, Loyal Books has a great collection of classic texts recorded by Librivox volunteers and neatly packaged by them in easy to install on your smartphone formats. There's even a nifty new Loyal Books app that lets you download text or audiobooks to read or listen on the go.

If you're seeing Europe by train, travel overnight. You'll save on time and accommodations while seeing more. If they're not too close, European cities are often connected by an single overnight train. With a little practice, you can sleep on the move, especially with ear plugs and a mask.

Forget Ikea unless you have to have something fast. Watch thrift stores (and beside the road) for good deals on quality furniture. It's better make and will last longer than something ticky-tacked together.

The iTunes card discount is on eBay, so forget it. Ebay has one the worst password management systems on the Internet. I've joined three times to get past their password screw-ups. Now my latest log-in is kaput. I'm sticking with better-run retailers.

I looked around Amazon and I'm most impressed with this model.

Interesting that they were flying at altitudes where contrails are generated, something they should be able to look back, see, and avoid.

Sorry, but the real test of an aircraft's stealth capability does not lie in how visible it is to Rat 55's radar. It's how well it works against the actual radar systems that Russia and China are putting in the field and selling to others.
