I have a toaster oven and not a standalone toaster. Any time I toast a bagel or an english muffin in it, I lament that I don’t have a toaster. It takes much longer and I can’t really ever seem to get the timing right to get it the right amount of toasted without being either just warm or burnt.

Here’s how wrong I am. My first and last toaster oven was purchased with hopes and dreams similar to what you described, but in reality:

Toast in the oven is fine if you’re making toast for a battalion, but if you’re a single person or small family, it’s extremely wasteful.

So let me get this straight: I’m supposed to spend the 20 minutes it takes to preheat an oven to 350 and then make toast in it, instead of just having a toaster do the same job in 3 minutes, with almost no effort, and likely a small fraction of the fossil fuel energy consumption?

Toasters make toast better than all of those other appliances. My toaster oven does a fairly decent job with my Eggos, but nothing beats the consistency and ease of a toaster for turning bread into toast.

your conventional oven and broiler will easily do the trick as well. Your oven does a fine job at around 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes; just flip your bread halfway through

I get that you aren’t a toast (or English muffin or toasted bagel) person, but this is just silly advice.

Membership for living in this country requires everyone to pay an amount to keep a certain standard of living. Do you like roads? Living in an area of the country where there are too many dirt roads, I can tell you that is not a solution, and even then they need upkeep.
