Unfortunately, the US Supreme Court rules that cops don’t need to know the law. This, in response to a case in which a NC cop stopped someone for an infraction that didn’t exist. Supreme Court said it was reasonable for the cop to think the law might have been real.

They should also be obligated to carry liability insurance. If they are constantly shooting people and are a danger to the public, the insurance company can jack up their rates so high that they have to find another line of work.

Before you can practice law in any state, you must pass that state's bar exam to demonstrate you have a proficient knowledge of the law. I propose that anyone who wishes to enforce the law must pass a similar exam to show they too are proficient in knowledge of the law. This won't solve everything but here's hoping…
