I can’t count how many times I fire up one of my consoles and I can’t immediately play because it has to update. My PC hooked up to my projector is pretty trouble free and usually is ready to get right into my steam games. So with my experience it’s the opposite to what you’re describing.

I use my current phone this way. I used to have a 7” tablet mounted in/on the dash, but ever since I went to the bigger Note phones, it’s not necessary. I’ve always been able to control my android, too - I just use a bluetooth to iPod 30-pin adapter that can pass the steering wheel controls to the phone via bluetooth.

I can imagine now that I’m able to use it to issue voice commands to control my home control setup, that one in each major living space makes it so I don’t even have to use a mobile device to control lights, thermos, etc.
