They took down the Jungle last month, bud.

THANK YOU. I was just coming here to post that, but you’ve got it covered. “Better the crook than the fascist” (the left’s position re Chirac, for Americans) is possibly my favorite political slogan ever.

That’s exactly what I’m saying. Many people’s priorities told them that “economic change” was more appealing than “racism/sexism” was unappealing. That’s a trade-off people made. They had every right to make it, but lots of people feel hurt by their decision.

I don’t think everyone who voted for Trump is a racist. I do think that everyone who voted for Trump knows what he’s done, what he’s said, and what people who support him have said and done. And I think people, knowing that, chose to prioritize other concerns over the wellbeing and safety of American minority

...I literally didn’t know this was a clinical thing. I thought I’d just been fucking bad at understanding my body for years. Guess I’d better go talk to my OB-GYN about some things. THANK YOU.

Oh man, I’m so sorry. Yeah, I feel like there’s knowing and knowing when it comes to dogs. Like, there’s actuarial awareness of how long dogs usually live, and then there’s the emotional, irrational feeling that if you love someone enough, you can keep them around forever. I’m like you; I’ve been lucky enough to avoid

Thank you so much for this. I’ve been thinking about it all day, and it really helped.

Thanks. I really appreciate it. It’s just been hard — well, it was always going to be hard, but harder since I moved overseas and couldn’t be there with him at the end. But I came home for a few days and got to see him then, and my parents were there. And he was a good boy. A sweet, sleepy, magical pup. If he were

We just lost our sweet love, after sixteen years of cuddles, hamming it up for fortune cookies, and blatantly misunderstanding the purpose of screen doors. We never dressed up as a giant squirrel, but the real ones outside the window always gave him joy after gnawing on stuffed plush ones.

Well, I mean, god forbid the artistic discipline and abstract concept of ballet be offended.

Because, from what I’ve learned from Jezebel over the years, ballet only intersects with mainstream culture to provide a venue for ballerinas (or more accurately, former ballerinas) to get angry and self-righteous about something.

Another possibly relevant detail: the Suffolk County Board of Elections is a bipartisan body, and Nick “one hand tied behind our back the sky is falling oh noez!” Lalota is a Republican commissioner and was a delegate for New York at the GOP Convention. Here he is, booing Ted Cruz for not endorsing Trump:

Meanwhile there are budget freezes throughout the College of Arts and Sciences, and 18 lecturers in the English department had their contracts terminated mid-year when the department couldn’t pay their salaries. (They were reinstated when the media got wind.)

What do you mean.

It’s honestly eery how much Apple looks like her mom when she was younger.

Someone gets me.

Um, I think you mean the “Woman Book-her Prize.”

...No? But if you read up, the person I replied to was making the case that our focus on Harvard food service workers was misplaced, since many college graduates make approximately the same income while paying off student debts. I was suggesting that educational status and other expenses aren’t factors by which we

I still think it’s a red herring. After all, you don’t know the extra cost burdens that exist for these individuals. Some of them might have family members whose tuition/student loans they’re helping to pay, for example — or they might have gone to school themselves, or currently be taking classes at a community

Why is the income level of college-educated students relevant to this discussion?
