For a single-player game there isn’t much need for transparency. You play through the experience, enjoy the mechanics and the story (or don’t) and that’s about it.

It’s not new for people to sink over $400 in an online game. People have been paying for MMOs since their inception. Anyone playing an MMO title for a year was paying at least $200+ for it in most circumstances.
