I completely agree. My Torts professor wrote an article after the Sandusky scandal unfolded that touched upon this subject. He said to characterize Sandusky as a monster was a mistake. Here is the link:
It's the strikingness of her first appearance. A hysterical, crying child, wandering a devastated city street, clutching her red shoe. The incomprehensibility of it drove home that this is a truly a movie about war.
I had a dream. A dream of mowing down foreigners with bullets.
Best part of the movie was her parts in it. No joke. (Didn't really like the movie....it lacked more scenes with this level of real emotion and consequence....film could have used more of this).
The first shot of her staggering around the street crying hit me like a sack of doorknobs. She did a great job.
