Not the point of your comment but when you talk about early Appalachian Christianity are you talking about magic and mystical christian syncretism? I’m no expert but I’ve always thought Appalachian “magic” traditions were fascinating, with how they combine scotch/Irish religion with African and other influences.

Starred because we clearly share the same obsession. I can’t figure out if I need a hobby, or if this is it?

If this is the version I think you are talking about, I saw it too, and was very confused. (the only little mermaid story I was aware of was the Disney version at that point my life.)

“I mean, if I went around saying I was an emperor just because I managed not to singe my pinky putting lizard eggs in a campfire, they’d put me away!”

Queen, eh? Very nice. And how’d you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers. By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society. If there’s ever gonna be any progress...”

Also, they got a DOD contract that was not mediated by their school’s funding office. If they were profs, I think that’d violate the school’s IP contract. My

Woah, all my exact thoughts came here and posted under an account autonomously ;)

A lot of it is ‘unrelated jumble of geek related words’ or racist/sexist/fat shaming statement’.

There’s a *tiny* percentage of Native American and East African in my family history and genome, and that actually makes sense considering we’re Appalachian hillbillies with a “reputation” of having “Melungeon” in the family (AKA: The Appalachian term for people of “mixed race”).

I will never understand this facet of people padding out their heritage instead of researching it. . the “my great great great great great grandmother was a cherokee princess” thing needs to fucking die already. Not only is it usually inaccurate, irrelevant to whether a person is actually native, and part of the “blood quantum” shit, it’s also only ever trotted out when someone is either trying to prove that they
