I first learned of Yukio Mishima through this movie, and it instantly became the lens through which I viewed Mishima in every subsequent encounter with his work, cultural references, etc. - I mean, this movie’s portrayal of the man, its imagery, etc. is what I think of when I think of him.

I was agog when I first heard it used that way, as well as in the trailer for the upcoming The House With a Clock in its Walls.

I love this movie. I wish I’d gotten the DVD before it went OOP, but I waited too long on it (always balancing totally new additions to the library with format upgrades), and it hasn’t come out on Blu-ray and might not do so, alas. I’m still holding onto my old laserdisc.

You’re not the only one who misses those alternate model shots. Unfortunately, they stopped doing them around 2006-2007, I think partly because some people expected instructions for those, too.

There’s only one LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar with the set number 75184, and this is it. If you’re assuming it has only two minifigures based on the box art, keep in mind the advent calendar art, unlike that on nearly all other LEGO sets, shows only some of the contents. It’s a Christmas advent calendar, after all -

“Entitled procrastinators” don’t make up the entirety of the potential viewership not yet caught up. Some people have actual lives, and don’t get to spend all their time watching TV right when it’s oven-fresh.

There’s a difference between rewatching (or rereading, etc.) something one has already watched or read and watching it for the first time but knowing how it ends. With the former, one can recall the delicious road to discovery, something completely denied to someone who watches only after knowing. I myself am enjoying

Yeah, they watch it for the storytelling. And even the ‘80s stuff mostly isn’t ‘80s references, per se; it’s more like a recreation of the atmosphere, tone, style, etc. of ‘80s productions. The series looks and sounds and feels like a fusion of movies of the period, as opposed to simply having characters make

It’s possible that’s just what Shep actually (erroneously) thinks. This is the same guy who maintains Star Trek (2009) is a better movie than Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, after all.

Whoa. So how much longer will the Disney Blu-rays and DVDs of Studio Ghibli movies be available? Do I need to rush to get all the ones I don’t have yet if I don’t want a big wait, or will GKids just take over each title immediately, or what? And is there any word on what differences there’ll be, if any, between the

Oh, I fully agree Star Trek: Generations has flaws (though we might disagree on what a few of them are). I still like it vastly more than Star Trek ‘09, though.

Star Trek ‘09 made Star Trek Into Darkness possible, so I feel justified in pinning all of STID’s flaws, faults, shortcomings, issues, and problems onto ST’09, along with all of ST’09's own.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier has lots of silliness, the cheapest laughs in the entire franchise, and some questionable production values, but it also has one of the strongest and clearest expressions of the Kirk / Spock / McCoy relationship dynamic and a fantastic Jerry Goldsmith score. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is a not only a fine blockbuster with action, humor, and pathos, but a literate, contemplative, adult meditation on aging and loss, a deft character study, a clever extension of the canon laid out in the original series, an all-time high point in the Star Trek canon, and vastly more.
