I’ve owned nothing but ICE vehicles and after 5-6 hours on the road I need a half hour break anyway. Bathroom, stretch, eat... 30 minutes goes by pretty quickly. I think people make a HUGE deal out of the range/charge time of EVs but realistically I don’t think it would have a negative effect on their trips like they

Wow, that is a gorgeous car.  It looks classic but also futuristic at the same time.

I wish there were English language versions of his books. They’d probably be very popular with the model railroading community here in the US as well as other diorama makers. His work is very impressive!

Plus they have functioning prototypes, a manufacturing facility, and investment from other major companies. At worst they’ll get bought out for their technology by the likes of GM or Ford; at best they have success on their own and become a real player in the market.

Fair point about the enabling. Thanks for the thoughtful responses!

That’s one of the things I loved about the Porsche 919 in World Endurance. The sound of the electric motors during braking and acceleration was like something from some futuristic sci-fi movie! I can’t wait to hear more of the Taycan...

I doubt the gap in the charging network will exist in a couple of years. Volkswagen has been adding a TON of fast charging stations all around the country through their Electrify America subsidiary. Given that a lot of regular VW models will be BEV starting in only a couple of years, I don’t think they’re wasting any

I think by that point, individual car ownership for the vast majority of people will be a thing of the past. The Ford Automatron might be “grounded” at that point, but whatever robo-taxi service you contract with for your daily transportation would find an alternate vehicle to use.

This might just be part of the training program for dealers to help with the ownership experience.

That’s exactly the problem though. He’s delusional and it’s entirely his fault that these cars are now worthless and having to be scrapped because he A) left them to rot in a field forever and B) “tried” to sell them by asking full book value and unsurprisingly found no takers.

A very small part of me feels for this guy, but...

How did you handle the sudden fame? Did you find it hard to work drive-thru with all of the talent scouts watching you from across the parking lot with binoculars?

Smart idea keeping the penises on ice, you can fit so many more into the container that way.

I had thought Starbucks was one of the first companies to voluntarily implement a $15/hr corporate minimum wage but it appears I was mistaken. Their benefits are far superior though, and that can be very valuable for a lot of folks.

If it’s a high-volume establishment like a coffee shop, that can add up if they process a Customer every minute or two. I still personally try to put in at least a dollar if I have it, but the change is better than nothing.

I bet the pay is probably the same. Chains don’t necessarily pay more because they’re larger, and in fact, sometimes it’s the other way around.

The story referenced in the article (in the paragraph that I quoted) does not mention McDonald’s at all, just the fast-food category in general. Their study does break out “fast casual” as its own category (Panera, etc.) but even then I think the line is blurred between the two categories and the tipping policy at one

My wife uses her app all the time (and sometimes I use it myself) and I’ve never seen a popup like that. Not calling you a liar, just haven’t seen it in my experience. Maybe it only exists on a newer version and she hasn’t updated? Weird...

I still call bullshit. So that burger survived a six hour flight, plus another couple of hours going through airports and other modes of transportation, and “falls out” of her bag on a sidewalk in Queens and remains in perfect condition? No wilting lettuce? No smashed bun from being squeezed into a carry-on or a TSA

I think (I hope anyway) the ever increasing use of plastic at places like that will force those companies into paying regular wages instead of forcing their workers to rely on tips. I hardly ever carry cash with me anymore and there are more and more people out there doing the same thing every day. If the option is
