Then don’t continue to college right after high school! Take a few years to work, like in Germany(or before). It used to take 4 years to train a student to be ready for the real world. Now when we receive them as freshman, they are more like middle schoolers. 4 years is no longer a reasonable time.

Our department is quite competitive, so we receive many top highschool students. The conclusion is no different. Most of them still try to fine short cuts, to to me there is not much difference between normal and prestigious high schools. However they are definitely better at “technical skills” such as languages.

The issue with talent is more than just the school system. It’s the social value and culture in general. To quote a friend who worked for some of the top R&D agencies in the US, now leading an electric car engineering team in Taiwan,”We do have difficulty hiring competent engineers locally, especially design

I would have shat myself each time if I have this at home, which is good, I guess? Also, a good morning wake-up ritual.

Having done my college and masters in the US, and teaching in Taiwan now, I have to say that I wish Taiwan’s higher education is expensive, really expensive. Taiwan’s college tuition fee is dirt cheap compared to the US. For example, the school that I teach in costs only about US$1500 a semester (two semesters a

This shows the aftermath.

Here in Taiwan, I won’t need to repaint my car yellow to use it as a Taxi, which is convenient!

Outside of Detroit city limit I am more familiar with Madison Heights, Royal Oak, Ferndale, Birmingham area. Yes I can tell. They all have different vibes. Madison Heights is where I went for most of my grocery shopping, from Meijers to Home Depot, that memorable Pho place near 13 mile on John R (please go say hi to

When I moved to Atlanta, a cashier asked for my number out of their routine customer info thingy. I said “313 47...” and he got so excited that I had a 313 number... as if it’s supposed to be some sort of pride. I guess the tax-paying population in Detroit was so low that I was considered a rare breed.

By “native Detroiter” do you mean actually within the city limits of Detroit, or more like Livonia, Royal Oak or Birmingham? The reason why I’m asking this is, every time I hear someone who claims to be a Detroit native, they are from outside of Detroit and rarely step foot inside the city limit. One was even from

It’s not just the kid’s fault. It’s the entire China! It’s very well known that if you exhibit anything in China, it’s going to get molested, raped, kidnapped and murdered. Last year I was a part of a team that had our design works on exhibition in Xiamen. These are mostly just product models that look good but are

I started driving one of these since I was 12. Two gears, diesel which has a very forgiving clutch, slow enough not to cause any trouble and GREAT visibility all around!

On top of that, they really like to turn their AC to full blast. So coming in from outdoor to indoor while drenched in your own sweat is also something to get used to in Singapore.

The amount of rainfall their run-off system is able to dissipate within a short amount of time to avoid flooding is impressive. I lived there between 1990 and 2001 and there was not a single significant flood. However for some reason, the Bukit Timah area started to flood more and more often.

Infinity divided by zero times two.

This is really amazing, but I am struggling to think of a break through application other than the mentioned 3D circuit board.

I just find it “a bit” funny how there are obvious hints of discrimination in his FB post, mentioning “white police officer” and “never judge a book by its cover”.

In Taiwan, cops used to be who people are afraid off, in the sense that if a kid misbehaves, the parents will say,”I’m gonna call the police on you!”. Today

Like I mentioned, it can’t take a MTB, and the front cargo space is really small too, just enough for light grocery shopping trip. How much is enough is relative. It’s definitely too small for me.

My bad, 2007.

Here the stupid government requires an inspection and new registration procedure when you install a roof rack on a car, because “the height of the car is been changed”. Also, only certified roof racks can be used. Since I am not feeling too secure with a rear bike rack, and don’t want the hassle of a hitch
