I’m basing that mainly on his run in Tampa Bay, where he consistently won 90-plus games in the AL East with low payrolls and teams that didn’t always look that great on paper in part because he had more effect on the game as played on the field than any manager since Tony La Russa.

Joe Maddon had a higher win percentage in his years in Tampa compared to Bochy despite that their payroll was 30% of SF’s. I don’t want to diminish Bochy, but come the fuck on.

Damn, that's a stupid idea.

I’d put Bochy at #2, but the original statement has a lot more to do with what Maddon achieved in Tampa Bay.

Schilling is garbage and Trump is a horrific proto-fascist, but it is strange that liberals attack Trump for proposing to deport many people, when Obama has deported more than any other president (over 2.5 million!), or that they attack him for proposing to do awful things to Muslims, when Hillary has been a key

I laughed.

Oh, god, Mike North.

A balk allows the runners already on base to advance one base, it does not allow the hitter to take first base.

Uneducated =/= Stupid. Ignorance and stupidity aren’t the same. That statement, however, is both stupid and ignorant.

I think multiple times in this series the Cubs would have been less likely to walk or pitch around Harper if Murphy were behind him. This extreme treatment cam precisely because they knew they had nothing to worry about from Zimmerman.

That’s the Nats problem, not the opposing teams problem. This whole idea that it’s chicken shit baseball is ludicrous. Last time I checked managers and players get paid to win ball games, not worry about opposing teams players and fans feelings.

I agree with your premise but vehemently disagree with the notion that Bartolo is unathletic. He’s a goddamn stud.

Everyone better keep a link to this video handy for whenever somebody claims the NL should have a DH.

Once again, a black man discovers the Blues, but it’s white guys who make money off them.

There’s a truly harmful belief that the right to say something is the same as the right to have it taken seriously. In this line of thinking, all voices are equally valid—even those that would deny rights to large swaths of people. Dismissively, it’s called the “gotta hear both sides” fallacy. In practice, it

That looks like a Muppet playing hockey in his pajamas. Not a good sports logo.

Probably helps that the Washington state flag is easily one of the five worst in the Union.

Fortunately, this is the NBA we’re talking about, so he’s got something like eight months to rest up before the conference finals get started.

Not surprising. Normally Padres and Cardinals only agree nothing was seen when one of them actually touches someone.

This is actually a genius diversion on the part of the Padres. Cardinals fans will have no idea what to do when they find out that the guy stealing signs from them is kind of a cop.
