That’s definitely surprising people don’t remember her there. My town (SE Houston) had the guy who poisoned his kids during Halloween in the 80s and tried to say they got it trick or treating. My town STILL doesn’t trick or treat. There’s a city “fall festival” where organizations rent a booth and give out candy.

I highly agree with DocSupreme on Fairfax County paying well. I know tons of elementary teachers (women my husband went to high school with), and I do believe you can find affordable housing on the edges while being drivable to good schools.

Yeah most of those early investments were 2004-2009. It wasn’t much to begin with, so I didn’t lose that much. But already having it in an IRA gave great incentive to just leave it there post crash.

Thankfully my dad was awesome about helping me when I was younger understand the implications of saving early. He offered to match my earnings dollar for dollar until I graduated college and put that into an IRA for me. It allowed me to keep my money but also start a nest egg.
