Reading about this made me think about the epilogue of the musical Caroline or Change. If you don’t know it, you should. Not only is it a freaking masterpiece, it’s still (sadly) incredibly topical. Anyway, spoilers, but in the end, the daughter of the main character sings about how she and her friends took down a

Apparently not, based on this thread! But it does appear to be the prevailing opinion.

This thread has proven that you are not alone in that opinion!

Now I have to go look up the Gregorian chant version because that sounds awesome!

If I’m internetting wrong, I don’t wanna be right. Also, girls just wanna have fun, I’m fighting for my right to party and I walk on sunshine.

Thanks! Looks like I’m headed down a YouTube hole when I get home!

Sign me up for that show!

Yeah, agreed. I don’t even watch the show and I probably won’t watch it with Remini (never really watched a ton of King of Queens either) but I like knowing she’s on tv. She’s good. I do feel bad for the original actress, though. It’s not her fault she’s not Leah Remini.

Ok, but you realize this is really just a fun thread, right? Like I’m not actually going to make Pentatonix sit in a dark basement, either. Also, as acknowledged in many of my other comments, other versions of the song are also good/great.

Agreed, but Buckley’s is still better!

You’re not alone based on this thread! But we can still be friends.

I mean, it definitely should be, but you just never know how things will go on a Jez forum! ;)

And just for fun, here is a Yiddish version. It’s still no Buckley, but I thought some of the translations were cool.

I mean, I’m open to it being good (can’t listen at work, have to wait until I get home) but there’s no way it’s better than Buckley!

Interesting! Thanks! I wonder why the switch? It also explains why when I listened to Rufus Wainwright’s version, I thought it was puzzlingly soulless compared to what I remembered in the movie.

I have some feelings on the topic, clearly. ;)

I thought it was Rufus Wainwright in the Shrek version.... I know it wasn’t Buckley. The movie is just how I first heard the song. Then I found Buckley’s version and that was it.

I get that. Somehow I’ve managed to escape being overexposed to it, so I never had that problem. That or they use a different version than my personal favorite, so it still retains its magic.

You HATE it or you just like Cohen better? What makes you hate it?

Well, Leonard Cohen was Jewish but...
