As someone with a daughter who loves Legos, I have grown more and more angry with the Lego Friends sets over time. At first it was like - cool, Legos with animals and stuff she likes - but the purple and pink and “OMG shopping!” themes are just shitty. The set for female heroes of the DC universe while gendered wasn’t

Altered Carbon was absolutely fantastic. Much more like a well done and extremely long movie than a TV series. If Netflix did anything wrong, it is that they’ll probably be unable to top this first season of Altered Carbon with anything (including a second season) any time soon.

I thought it was really good, and the best thing Netflix has put out in a while (I liked it more than Stranger Things).

They are nuts. This show is fantastic.

Sometime this year! ... but then it’s gone forever. Breaks my cold black heart.

I just want Sense 8 to be back :(

History is the only subject where at the university level (espeically the graduate level), they have to begin by unteaching you what you learned in High School.

Sounds like what you were teaching about the population was actually true, though. If they’re teaching Columbus as I was taught Columbus in school, I wouldn’t want my kid hearing that bullshit either.

As a history teacher in high school, I think this kid’s letter is the visual representation of awesome. At nine he is coherent, asking legitimate questions and pointing out problems. The real problem is the teacher’s dismissive comment that didn’t actually say anything. The teacher is disappointed? Maybe they should

Pastor knows those things because he was all up in the newses, precious, and knew all those Scrabble words. Why do you think it was prohibited all those years to teach folks of color how to read ...?

This is why I am so so so happy to work in a unionized environment. My depression made me feel like I was unemployable in cuthroat capitalism, but now that I have worked somewhere for a long time (4 years!) and have gotten support through work and stuff, my depression is easier to manage.

Good advice. It sucks that we’re still dealing with enough stigma about mental illness that tips like this are needed, but they totally are. I remember at some point feeling comfortable enough at work that I let it slip to some coworkers that I struggled with depression and took antidepressants, and a couple were

You know the real bitch?

I agree and a lot of the time meds and therapy work great in conjunction.

This is a good comment. As someone with bipolar depression, I co-sign.

Okay I’m going to be the worst here, and this is based purely on my experiences. I am not a doctor. But, for Depressed Work Chick:

Brexit Reversal would seem to be the best outcome for nearly everyone involved. The Irish border issue is super scary, and in most analysis that I’ve read the UK is better off in nearly every way in the EU. I would say, “Maybe Labour can win in the next election,” but that doesn’t seem like a fix-all either.

I had a look at the 200 largest corporations in the world by market capitalization today. Of the just half a dozen British corporations on that list, all but one were in finance. The one that actually produced real goods clocked in at #115 or so. It’s not like Britain has much of an industry and manufacturing backbone

We have nukes and an oversized military, apparently that makes us l33t or something. Anyway, yeah, there genuinely are Brits that are still in the Rule Britannia mindset as the empire lingered on until the 60s with a few random islands still part of it til the 70s and 80s so it’s still within living memory. WW2 killed

The EU has given the UK 2 weeks to come up with a plan on the divorce bill or they’ve threatened to push back the trade talks even further
