Skipping what's on the cover, the Mike Resnick and Barry N. Malzberg piece was reprehensible. That should never have appeared in an industry newsletter. Discussing how you ogled certain editors and writers ("literary ladies") isn't appropriate for a publication meant to be read by women in your industry. It'd be like

They could have probably gotten away with the cover as a 'throwback' if that atrocious piece about bangable women editors working in SFF wasn't in the issue. The cover gets the attention, but it's not the real issue.

Get a French press. Let it sit out for several hours and put it in the freezer overnight.

I really disagree with the more anger bit. That's what has made Matt Smith's performance great — he excels at portraying the manic insanity of being a time traveler without being broody. There are more things than just anger that can lead people to do terrible things. Personally, I believe the hyper-manic portrayal

Not to be a hater, but Worse Buffy Death goes to Tara! What the fuck, she just died! It was brutal!

Don't gossip. Just ... people will tell you things naturally and in good time when you've formed genuine, working relationships with them. By all means, just talk about seemingly random things to build that relationship, but if you come across judgmentally, it's bad news. Also, you can totally stay at happy hour if

I keep a notebook of plot diagrams/outlines with a general idea of who my main characters are. When I understand what's emotionally gripping me to these characters and this story (what usually becomes the Big Themes during editing), then I write it.

This is why I always aim to try something different when I buy wine. There are so many wines in the world, and you can get good bottles on sale or on the cheap very easily.

What is going on here? Is this io9 fad diet month? There has been so much paleo and wheat free diet pushing on this site, and now we have this. Please stop. Leave the diet posting to one of your sister sites, io9. I don't come here to read pseudo-science crap.

I have 2 requests from my fiance: 1) a wedding in the mountains (living in Seattle, so doable) and 2) an open bar. No bachelor/bachelorette party (I believe the proper term for this is 'college'), no bridal party (save my sister/his best man), and no bridal shower. Also, probably no gift registries, either.

Johnny Depp trolling Disney is why he can make as many movies with Tim Burton and Hannah Bonham-Carter as he wants.

I heard of them, but the dolls were insanely expensive, and I borrowed the books from my friends.

Dang it, I saw the galaxy one on the list and made a typo. Thanks, subconscious processing. It is the Universe, and it's still my favorite science pod-cast.

I'd like to add Skeptic's Guide to the Galaxy and Rationally Speaking to this list.

Can we just collectively agree to be OVER Cat Marnell so we don't have to hear about her so shallow my fingernail could scratch through them problems?

Nope. She gets to keep the advance. No matter what. If she doesn't sell that much worth of books, OH WELL PUBLISHING.

This is the question I had, too, but the study is ultimately focused on the mechanisms of how L-carnitine is processed and not where it comes from in the cattle. I think a life science/agricultural focused lab would have to determine if high levels of L-carnitine are intrinsic to livestock or if it's caused by diet

No, it is not one of the essential amino acids.

Actually, if you read the paper, they prove causation by administering only the L-carnitine as a dietary supplement in mice. The actual study is more focused on the compound of L-carnitine and not so much the 'red meat' factor as it's reported here.
