People are bad at self evaluation. Thats why standards are theoretically in place, to weed out the unsuitable.

Im reading Jon Ronsons book So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed. It covers stories about minor figures being driven to suicide over cruel outtings back in the 90's. I used to work at a bar where News of the World staff drank and hearing their shop talk, I was delighted when that place closed.

Id love it so much if people stopped caring about celebrity drama, the whole thing just feels gross and cruel and while people like Kanye play to it because its there as a market, if it wasnt, he would be fine.

I dont think it is meaner. I remember the tabloids 20 years ago tearing people apart for tiny imperfections. At least now they can shoot back via the internet.
