I have no idea what corner of the art world this idiot is coming from...I’ve seen some poorly though out art, but never anything so blatantly cruel to a family.

It is tricky, however I think in certain circumstances the artist’s background does impact the statement a piece makes. For example, there was a female artist who did a series of paintings with her own menstrual blood. Would the statement be the same if a man did so? I would argue no.

It has sparked a discussion of her lack of talent, creativity & original thought.

Plus, this clunky mannequin in a sterile gallery setting has the effect of minimizing the real horror. The artist might as well have built a shoebox diorama with a Ken doll corpse.

The artist is quoted as saying, “we’re living in a society of very complicated systems that create advantages for white people, and disadvantages for others. That’s what my work is about.” You know, like cultural systems where people display recreations of your dead child.

This is tasteless, exploitative, gross disgusting, and I hope the artist can find it deep from within themselves to go fuck a chainsaw. I can’t believe this exists....I can’t believe it got greenlit by the museum!

Alright, so obviously this installation is meant to grab attention and upset people. I think if it were done by a black artist with the consent of Brown’s whole family, it could maybe work. But a white artist and Brown’s father not being on board pushes this into horrible territory.
