oddly enough, the shooting in the latest tomb raider games, rise and shadow especially, is really good. not thematically essential, for sure, but actually quite slickly done. shadow also has absolutely incredible climbing sequences.

you’re right—but it’s just a bit more odd in this instance, given that gloomhaven was already fairly inclusive in its representations. anyone who picks up the game would get the unmistakable impression that it’s made with some sensitivity towards gender and sexuality, which are also big red flag topics for bigot gamers…

table top board games still have a lot of growing up to do to match genuine role playing games. as it is, gloomhaven is just “ultra chess”. which is great, but it’s almost satirical that the goal of “kill everything” has to be re-stated at the beginning of every mission, a hundred times over.

as a frosthaven backer i couldn’t be more amped for this game. the major weakness of gloomhaven is the boilerplate fantasy narrative, and literally any effort expended to add a bit of nuance to that is welcome—especially considering how sophisticated the tactical gameplay is.

children don’t typically have money. now, granted, these are probably scalpers, BUT in the event that these cards are destined for the hands of each adult’s child or children, i’m kind of glad they weren’t there. they would’ve been endangered.
