A great example are the trans characters in Dragon Age: Inquisition and Mass Effect: Andromeda. Krem in Dragon Age was done very well, while Mass Effect’s Hainly was not. The difference was that the time and effort was put into consulting with trans people on Dragon Age.

I don’t think they’ll drop it. The main issue is Rick’s character arc is tied directly to the Evil Morty story line. Rick can’t really progress as a character, until it’s over with.
