With women (I am also a woman), I sometimes like to ask about their outfit (especially if it's stylish). People love to tell a good hunting story, and excellent outfits sometimes have a good one.
This is my go-to as well, as it toes the line between being personal and impersonal pretty well. There are only so many things you can say about the weather, and asking more specific questions about a person right off can be a bit off putting.

That GIF kind of freaks me out, honestly, especially since differences between two pictures tend to jump out much more strongly when you do a rapid flip between them. I can see the differences between the faces, but they are mostly pretty subtle, and they all conform to the same shape.
