There was an article that said if you’re going to make a fan game, at least file off the serial numbers before going public about it. Look at various other indie games that started as fan games only to change their names late in production. And the IP holders backed off.

The problem is, this wanst just any fangame, it was a romhack. I think the main problem was that he got too bold with the announcements. If he kept quiet like 99% of other romhack makers, it would have been released without problem.

The fans have no-one to blame but themselves. It’s obvious they shouldn’t be making these games but somehow they think they won’t be shutdown.

I legitimately feel bad that these people have spent ~8 years on this project. It has to suck to have the project shut down... but I cannot fathom what the hell they were thinking investing so much time and energy into something that was clearly infringement.

The flaw in the second Death Star is very different and I always assumed it was a product of it still being under construction. In any case it’s possible the Empire didn’t know exactly what the specific flaw in the first one was, just that it was there and needed to be k defended against better
