Interesting. I did some casual research into the subject when I was writing an Arabian Nights fantasy a few years ago, but can’t claim to be completely up to speed on the latest academic studies.

And, yes, I confess got some mileage out of “the lamp is actually Chinese!” twist!

To be fair, it’s not like the original story was ever “authentic.” It appears nowhere in in any of earliest Arab manuscripts and was apparently added by the French translator, who claimed to have heard it in a Middle Eastern bazaar. From there it found its way into the original English editions, and has since become a

Giving that people have been retelling the story of Aladdin since at least the 1700s I’m going to give them a pass on this. I mean, it’s not like the Disney cartoon invented the story. :)

Trivia:  the earliest known version of the story, which appeared in a French translation of the The Arabian Nights published in

Ditto. This thread is making me feel old. I remember going to see THE BLACK HOLE and SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE over the holidays. And STAR WARS movies used to be in the Spring, when it was still warm enough to camp out on the sidewalks overnight to see the movies on opening day.

Three December releases does not a “tradition”

Definitely. Bring it on.

(I think ATTACK OF THE CLONES is the only SW movie I never got around to seeing in the theaters.)

Don’t be silly. Everyone knows SW movies arrive every threes years in May.

Or is that not how it works anymore?  :)

“The Sirens of Space-Time,” of course.

I’m was thinking Psycho-Pirate, too, possibly as a nod to his prominent role in the original Crisis on Infinite Earths?

This show is the DC Universe on drugs. I love it so much.

And the hairball gag . . . .!

I’m hoping for SUPERNATURAL meets SONS OF ANARCHY.

(Full disclosure:  I edit the books.)

The TV rights have been optioned. Crossing my fingers.

Honestly, I still want an “Assignment: Earth” TV series. You don’t even need to connect it to the STAR TREK universe this time around. Just call it “Gene Roddenberry’s ASSIGNMENT: EARTH” and you’re good to go.

I’ve actually brought Seven, Roberta, and Isis back in three of my STAR TREK novels.

Adrianna Tomaz is the secret identity of the most recent DC Comics version of Isis, introduced several years ago.

Zari Adrianna Tomaz on LEGENDS has Isis’s traditional magic amulet and ability to summon powerful mystic winds.  She also briefly Isis’s costume on last year’s Halloween ep.

Okay, this may be a stretch, but bear with me.

The original STAR TREK tv series featured a character named Isis, who was a cat who could turn into a woman—or vice versa.

Zari on LEGENDS is loosely based on the DC heroine, Isis.

So, “Isis” just turned into a cat.

The most roundabout STAR TREK in-joke ever?

Thanks for using the art from KING OF THE ROAD at the top of this listing.

Loved the moment when Brainy slipped up and called Nia “Nura” by mistake.

Long live the Legion.

The first one was a lot of fun. Watched it twice in one week once.

Thank you! I was waiting for someone to mention that.

Sean Connery as an aging Robin Hood. Audrey Hepburn as Marian. A bittersweet movie about the last days of a legend.

The Errol Flynn is in vivid color, even though it was made in 1938.

Ahem. “The Adventures of Robin Hood” with Errol Flynn, anyone?

Still marvelously entertaining even after eighty years.
