Singin’ in the Rain? Casablanca? The Empire Strikes Back? There are perhaps a handful of genuine masterpieces that one remakes at one’s own peril, but I’ll agree that most old movies and TV shows are fair game for reboots and reinterpretation.

Let me rephrase that. LOGAN’S RUN is a fun old movie that is fondly

The big question: how many modern moviegoers are going to think this is a Wolverine movie?

“Hey, where’s Hugh Jackman?”

LOGAN’S RUN has always struck me as a prime candidate for a remake. It has some cool ideas and is fondly remembered by fans of a certain generation, but it hasn’t aged particularly well and was never an untouchable masterpiece.

The challenge these days is to how to make it stand out amidst all the other youth-centric

Thank you! Glad to see that I’m not the only one who remembers the 1952 movie.

“Inchworm, inchworm . . . “

To be clear, not all of us old-timers insist on absolute fidelity to the look of the earlier shows. I’m old enough to remember watching STAR TREK during its original run on NBC, but I’m also pragmatic enough to realize that sometimes a change in art direction is just . . .a change in the art direction. It’s a show..

This is not GALAXY QUEST and we are not Thermians. We understand that these are theatrical productions, not “historical documents.”

So artistic license and a certain willing suspension of disbelief come with the territory. Just like when the Klingons got a makeover in 1979 or Kirstie Alley magically turned into Robin

Chalk it up to “artistic license” and move on.

But do you remember who played Jonathan Harker in the Mel Brook’s version? I sure don’t. :)

Regarding the Twilight Zone tragedy, we should note that two children were also killed in the accident, not just Morrow.

Thank you. This thread was starting to make me feel incredibly old, but nice to know I’m not the only old-timer frequenting these parts! :)

Damn, good one.. I suddenly remember the novel hitting me like a ton of bricks in grade school. And identifying so much with the Phantom that I even wrote and performed a dramatic monologue as him for Drama Class in junior high . . . .

Oh, Lord, I’m not sure I can remember that far, but I recall being obsessed with the original Sherlock Homes stories as far back as sixth grade. See also Barnabas Collins on the original DARK SHADOWS tv show (which I watched religiously as a kid). So . . . brainy, somewhat antisocial outsiders . . . .

Let it be noted that the second STAR TREK: DISCOVERY novel, DESPERATE MEASURES by Dayton Ward, also comes out this month.

(Is it just me or does io9 recommend fewer media tie-in books than it used to?)

You know, a quick Google search turns up a joke photo taken during the filming of 1955's REVENGE OF THE CREATURE in which the Creature from the Black Lagoon is making out with the leading lady.

So, yeah, not a new idea . . ..

(Alas, I don’t know how to successfully post photos to io9.)

Who among us has not written erotic fan-fiction about the Creature of the Black Lagoon?

Seriously, I can easily imagine that there are reams of such stories out there, and that Del Toro was merely inspired by the original movies like many others. Nothing dubious about that.

Plus, “rescuing non-human being from evil

I just finished reading the first DISCO novel, by my friend David Mack. Very interesting if you haven’t read it yet.

Good luck with your move. We just moved as well and we’re still unpacking!

Glad to have met you. Shore Leave is one of my favorite conventions. I’m looking forward to going back to it this summer.

My take (well, one of them): If you approach DISCO from an adversarial position, scowling at the screen with your arms crossed atop your chest, ever on look-out for “canon violations” or whatever,

Loved the Supergirl/Livewire stuff. I’d watch a buddy flick of them alone.

Kinda a shame, though, that Sarah Douglas’s guest-spot was so brief.

Although that probably had more to with the fact that Carl Lumbly had also previously played the Martian Manhunter on one of the animated series.

Meanwhile, I remember really liking the original M.A.N.T.I.S. tv-movie, but being less impressed by the subsequent TV show.

Yep, I’m that THAT Greg Cox. And, yeah, I’m not really on the same page with this reviewer regarding DISCO, but that’s what make horse races. And you may be underestimating my awesome power to sway the site’s editors: :)

But thanks for the vote of confidence.

For the record, I’m really enjoying DISCO so far. It’s my
