Since when were writers supposed to be objective and without opinions or points of view? Maybe that’s a goal to aspire to for some kinds of factual news coverage, but when it comes to blogs, editorials, columns, commentary, reviews, essays . . . a writer’s POV is very much part of their writing. (See H. L. Mencken,

Going even more obscure: Remember TIME TRAIN with Vincent Price and Coral Browne?

Bless you for spelling “grisly” correctly in the headline. Even mainstream news sources tend to screw up and spell it “grizzly” these days, as though there was a ferocious bear involved.

I remember when a theater manager tried to discourage my dad from letting my little sister see THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL.

Manager: “Sir, are you sure the subject matter is appropriate for her age?”

Dad: “She’s read the book three times.”

Oh, I don’t think parents have changed that much. Mine wouldn’t let me see PLANET OF THE APES or ROSEMARY’S BABY back in the sixties because they were deemed too “adult” for my tender years. (“2001: A Space Odyssey” was acceptable, although the ending flew way over my nine-year-old head . . . . .)

And did people

Yep, I wrote one of the LEVERAGE books—and I’m writing at least three LIBRARIANS novels. (The second one comes out in April.) Alas, I live back east and haven’t had occasion to visit Portland in years, but thanks for the invite!

Full disclosure: I’m writing the tie-in books . . . and that’s been a lot of fun, too.

FYI: TNT is running a LIBRARIANS marathon today (i.e. Saturday).

And did I mention there are books? :)

Jane Curtin is definitely coming back this season. She can be seen in one of early trailers.

The movies are a lot of fun but not mandatory. The TV series does a good job of reestablishing the premise . ....

I can’t remember. Did they use any flashback footage from ESCAPE in CONQUEST or BATTLE?

Looks like fun. But just to nitpick: McDowall only played Cornelius in two of the original five movies, which is not exactly “most.” David Watson played Cornelius in the second movie (because McDowall wasn’t available) and McDowall played Caesar, not Cornelius, in the fourth and fifth movies. (He also played a

I wish! :)

Alas, they were simply picture-book adaptations of the movies. Lots of color stills from the movies, not a lot of text . .....

Dare I admit to editing the novelizations of the first two movies—and the children’s editions?

Sold pretty well as I recall . . . ..

The more things change . . ..

I know Gorilla Grodd is primarily a FLASH villain, but surely he has to figure into this somehow?

Seriously. Just check out the opening credits of the movie, where Richard Matheson is duly credited. And I published that tie-in edition above with the full cooperation of the folks at Disney, who provided the cover art and everything.

You’re right! I had completely forgotten about TEENAGE CAVEMAN, which used to play regularly on “Nightmare Theater” when I was growing up.

I remember enjoying this movie on its original release. Haven’t seen it since, though, so I have no idea how it holds up now.

Well, if we’re copyediting here, let’s also note that, in the same paragraph, “traditional” should be “traditionally.”
