He’s actually playing Ronald Reagan on FARGO this season.

Another vote for LIBRARIAN recaps!

It’s the opposite of trying to make it fail. It’s CBS trying to use its hit show BIG BANG THEORY as a lead-in to the premiere.

So, BBT at 8, followed by SUPERGIRL at 8:30.

I remember that issue. Part of the big Avengers-Defenders War that summer.

Thanks for posting that.

And Steven Spielberg’s first film.

And, of course, the TV show took its title from AMAZING STORIES magazine, which was the first true sci-fi magazine, dating back to 1926.

Gotta wonder if the TV show will spark a revival of the magazine.

As I recall, “The Fly” by George Langelaan first appeared in Playboy, as did “Duel” by Richard Matheson.

I’m not sure I’ve EVER walked out of a movie.

You know, I was just debating whether I want to post about that. I think a better description would have been “doleful.”

“Baleful” pretty much implies malevolence these days. “The demon swept his baleful gaze over the trembling humans.”

Poor, sad eyes are anything but baleful.

This is where I brag once again about having edited the novelization of CUTTHROAT ISLAND, which I’m perversely proud of. And I still listen to the soundtrack album all the time. Good, rousing pirate music!

I don’t have time to get sucked into the Reboot Wars again, but I really think we’re talking about a (very) vocal minority here. The idea that most of us old-school Trekkies have a problem with the new movies has been wildly exaggerated.

And, yeah, I thought the 2009 movie was great. Easily one of my favorite TREK

On the other hand, sometimes nostalgia can be a trap. The main problem, IMHO, with SUPERMAN RETURNS is that it coasted too heavily on nostalgia on for old Christopher Reeve movies, which were made long before most of today’s target audience was born.

“The Voyage Home” is also the classic Trek movie that’s arguably the most accessible to the average viewer. You don’t have to be an expert Trekkie to enjoy it.

No surprise that, up until the recent reboot, it was the most commercially successful of the Trek movies.

You could also go with “The Measure of a Man” which is probably the best early TNG episode.

Remember when Sisko punched Q?

Absolutely. “Duet” is the first great DS9 episode and the first evidence of just what the show was capable of.

Minor nitpick: The Search for Spock was Nimoy’s directorial debut. The Voyage Home was the second Trek film he directed, not the first.
