As I recall, there were episodes involving robots, mad scientists, astronauts, vampires, etc. So maybe not that big of a stretch! :)

Recall that the host of FACE OFF is the daughter of Michael Westmore, who was in charge of make-up for most of the latter-day STAR TREK series. It’s a small world.

I edited the novelization of that movie, and we had a lot of fun with the meta-ness of it all. The book ended with a facsimile news article reporting that the author of the novelization, David Bergantino, had disappeared under mysterious circumstances . . . ..

Sad that Craven is no longer with us.

That’s the one! I shamelessly lifted the female chief engineer from that book and used her in mine as well.

My girlfriend and I used to binge on DEXTER every couple years. (But let’s not talk about that final season, okay?)

There’s been a handful of Pike-era novels published over the years. I think I read most of them researching this book. Maybe you’re thinking of VULCAN’S GLORY by D.C. Fontana? I think that was the very first Pike novel.

It’s set during Spock’s early years aboard the Enterprise, while serving under Captain Christopher Pike.

Thanks! I’m afraid I don’t know who the artist is.

And dare I mention a certain STAR TREK novel coming out in November:

(Sorry. Not sure why the cover displayed so large.)

Now playing

Can I shamelessly plug a few projects? Like the first of Tor’s new DEADLANDS novels, coming out in a few weeks:

I confess: I paid money to see this, but there was a heat wave going on, my apartment didn’t have air-conditioning, and it was playing just around the corner . . . .

(Plus, I liked Colleen Haskell from SURVIVOR.)

As a teenage fan of H.G. Well’s original novel, I never forgave THE FOOD OF THE GODS for turning Well’s book into a dumb monster movie about giant rats (who figure in about one chapter of the book).

Still, it’s arguably better than the previous adaptation of the same novel, VILLAGE OF THE GIANTS . ...

“Good Omens” by Gaiman and Pratchett reduced me to helpless giggles over and over . ...

And this is why I sometimes roll my eyes when purists insist that the movies stick religiously to the original comics.

“Oh, you want Alfred to be a roly-poly comic-relief character who doesn’t show up until well after Bruce becomes Batman . . . .”

Love it!

Yep. Paranormal Witness can be nicely creepy. Forget the “based on true events” nonsense and just enjoy it as a weekly mini-horror movie.

Nah, the third season of DEFIANCE has been great. Arguably the best so far.

They said specifically that not even Daisy knew what gender her baby was before she gave it up for adoption. And, yeah, I’m suspicious of Piper, too.

Scream: I’m by no means certain on this, but I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that Piper, the friendly true-crime podcaster, is working with the killer for some reason . ..

I can never remember how to spell the K-word either! :)

And my money (joy?) is on Alvis being the mysterious former husband. We were getting some Meaningful Looks between them at the end there.

“Be safe.”
“Be you.”
