No Devil in the Dark? My high school English teacher made us watch it in class.  I had already seen it, but the younger kids in the room were rolling their eyes at the effects.  The reason he put it on was because it was a good example of sci-fi examining what a non-human lifeform would be like, how we’d interact with

It’s both. Literally, it’s both.

Wait... are people mad that Trump is essentially a comic book villain? Or that Spiegelman reminded them that they support a comic book villain? An important distinction.

This week on the Orville: a plot Star Trek did better 20 years ago, but we added a fart joke! Emmy please!

Are you. Um. Are you intentionally quoting something which shows that Antarctic sea ice is growing slower than Arctic sea ice is shrinking or did you not notice that part when you were trying to make your point?

Hey it’s you again! The guy who doesn’t even know what growing zones are! Good to see you and your lack of understanding about this issue! You were the one talking about the 40 year long scientific plot to overthrow capitalism. Man those were some good times: You not being able to explain why scientists would

Please let it be more than aliens doing a lot of talking.

Damn you, autocorrect.

Now I want to infiltrate a Westboro Baptist Church protest with a sign saying “God hates figs. [Mark 11:12-14]”

I hate (read: don't actually) to be that person, but I loved Ender's Game when I read it as a kid. I read the whole series of novels. Orson Scott Card's politics about homosexuals has rendered all of his work unreadable to me. I have a hard time separating author from fiction, and as a gay guy: I'm not a big fan.

My own theory is that, in the 1960s and 1970s, being a young white American man with a certain amount of income was more like being a god on earth than at any time in history. As long as you went to college, you were draft-deferred. (Yes, that changed later — but it was once a reality.) Once out of college, you were

Ahem - straight white cis guys. Surely we don't want to include anyone trans in our persecuted minority? </sarcasm>

Hardly a surprise. Republicans only care about two things, making as much money as possible (all consequences be damned) and appealing to whatever crazy thing their extreme base wants to hear this week so they can stay in power to continue making as much money as possible.

Bob Corker you motherfucker...

I can't tell if you're joking, but if not... science fiction and fantasy are generally viewed as being very closely related genres, under the umbrella of "speculative fiction." Authors go back and forth between the two all the time. And both genres involve a counterfactual, either a setting or a plot device or a

All the stars for acknowledging the Twilight Zone adaptation.

Hyperion needs to be an HBO Mini-series. You cannot in good conscience try to squeeze even just the first book, let alone the two books, into a 2-hour movie. That would be a crime against all that is good and holy.

I even think the destruction of his/her body and the darkness of his/her world are the dwindling bank accounts, the lost friends, etc. It speaks volumes to anyone who was/is an addict or anyone who is or was family/friend/lover to an addict.

Naturalistic fallacy. Just because we evolved the capacity to digest meat doesn't mean it's still justified. Most people fare rather well on a vegetarian diet, so it's mostly a lifestyle choice.
