Eh, he doesn’t sound like Mr. T at all in the original Japanese version; that stereotype is a product of the rushed 1997 English translation as much as “this guy are sick”.

It had a pedigree that should have guaranteed greatness

I also think boss fights have become an obligatory thing where devs feel like they have to include them even if they don’t have any good ideas for boss fights that match the particular gameplay style of the rest of the game.

I feel clever when I first figure out a boss’ patterns, but I find these fights tedious once I know what to do. Watching a boss’ health bar slowly tick down reminds me of running on a treadmill at the gym—there’s nothing to do but repeat the same actions while a counter incrementally moves.

...except back then, she was called Princess Toadstool.

Yes, those are common features; so what? You don’t need reviews or discussions in order to purchase a game; you can and should research opinions elsewhere. The lack of ability to purchase multiple titles at once is an obvious fumble in light of the discount events EGS attempted, but hardly controversial.

Apparently you don’t realize that it sounds like self-parody when you act like the lack of reviews or discussion threads is some kind of staggering omission, or claim that the Ooblet devs’ post was “SUPER condescending”.

It only silences legitimate criticism because the legitimate criticisms seem so tiny and insignificant next to the fuss that’s being made over them.

Yeah, Tetris Effect was always advertised as a PS4 exclusive, and Steam was never fucking mentioned.

Yeah I was looking forward to Nintendo finally having an answer to the Sega Nomad. As someone only partially interested in a Switch, the prospect of a handheld version I can also plug into the TV when needed is attractive. Losing that prospect significantly dampens my interest and it doesn’t feel like there’s a good

Totally disagree. If you are interested in niche genres (which is really what indie games cater to), then any given genre will only have a dozen or so (often fewer) standout titles per year which all tend to get recognized by news sites, blogs, subreddits, and the like. If you follow these genres it’s not hard at all

Yeah, when there are people still saying Lowtiergod’s toxic behavior is all an act, you know the “heel” excuse has gone too far.

Eh, people debate which games constitute a “real” metroidvania just as much as roguelikes, so I don’t think changing the terms will solve that. Gatekeepers gonna gatekeep. Moreover, there is legitimate use in describing how heavily a game adapts certain rules and mechanics; the only problem comes when people take that

Why do they even need to be combined into one umbrella term, when Metroid and Castlevania represent opposite approaches to the formula? It’d be more specific to simply call these games “Metroid-likes”, unless they have an XP system or CV-inspired subweapons and thus can be called an “Igavania”.

Ranking the Halo campaigns in general is kind of a fool’s errand as they’re all pretty uneven with some replayable levels mixed in with Library-esque boring/tedious portions. It’s basically a question of “pick your poison” + “at which point do you wear the hardest nostalgia glasses.”

I mean, 360s (and Reach) are pretty cheap on ebay these days.

If you liked Ryu and Ken flirting in SFV, check out the SF2V anime, where they sleep in the same bed, ride the same motorcycle, go skinny dipping, and go looking for “opponents” at a place in San Francisco called The Rainbow Pub.

I mean, I don’t know if I’d use Golden Saucer to argue that since it’d also imply the game should have expanded romance plotlines with Barett and Red XIII.

Eh, 2D platformers are a diverse category and don’t all satisfy the same audiences. Of those out lately, how many deliver the same traits as Rayman Origins/Legends or the new DKC games? IIRC just Unruly Heroes, which looks amazing but IMO lacks in tightly-polished gameplay in comparison.

This is nothing new; FPS have been dodging trademarks since Goldeneye and CS 1.6, and the door swings both ways for developers. Many times they get to include gear for free or even get payed by the manufacturer to do so, because it becomes a sponsored product placement.
