It's another 1980s classic, but for massive influence on film-makers and pop culture generally, I'm not sure how you beat Blade Runner. The look; the political, economic and social settings; the very idea of the individual; I could go on, but you know this better than I ever will.
Red Dawn (1984, of course) may have been more political than it was science fiction, but I would offer it for its influentially clear anti-communist, anti-big government, pro-rugged individualism, militia-loving message that both reflected and contributed to its time.
