I really don’t see the “exchange” piece, which I have never thought of prior to reading this article, despite seeing many of these photos. Yes, women typically get these bodies as a result of having a baby, but I thought of them the same way as when I see post-mastectomy bodies—a woman went through something; their

Good on your kid. But my kid is black, and she is having an even shittier time than I did. So I am tired of people putting all this faith in the progressiveness of the youth today and ignoring all the evidence to the contrary. The same “old folks” you are complaining about were probably derided by their predecessors

Right.  Does NO ONE remember the rest of that saying.  That is not a good defense, AT ALL.

My point in sharing is that this was symbolic to me of how most younger people have a more inclusive and open mindset... and one day the old farts who control everything will die off, so the world should become a better place. If they don’t burn it all down in the meantime.

I keep saying this over and over and over, but the idea that men are bad at recognizing “non-verbal cues” is only EVER invoked in the context of sex and consent. In every other context, where ability to identify and respond to non-verbal cues translates into money, they are AMAZING at it. Cops, judges,

Racists don’t make out with the race that they hate, especially in the way he does with his tongue—so deep down her throat. I don’t care how good of an actor you are. It’s all bullshit. Ignore it. He’s not a racist.

stupid teenage shitheadedness

I mean, but isn’t that true about almost everything that is going on in the lives of your friends? “How is work?” Boring. “How is your husband/wife?” Boring. “How is your new house?” Boring. “How is your marathon training going?” Boring. All that shit is boring. But what you usually care about—as a friend—is not being

I remember reading this in high school and it was probably the first book (along with Invisible Man) that I read for school that were written by black authors and the way it resounded with me is something I can never forget. I am in no way country so the dialect and actual living experiences were not similar to my

Guyger, 30, shot Jean, 26, after mistaking his apartment for her own and thinking he was an intruder. She said she parked on the fourth floor instead of the third where she lived and went to Jean’s door, thinking it was hers. He lived on the floor above her.

First, there are lots of ways to encourage attendance that don’t involve prosecuting parents, imposing huge fines on already struggling families or taking a parent out of the house to take care of the children and support them financially. One of the parents Harris went after was homeless. I could imagine there are a

And in practice, in LA, we saw LAPD picking up kids AS THEY GOT OFF THE BUS ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE SCHOOL if the bus arrived late. So, when they talk about this being a way to penalize black/brown kids & their families and not being about actually increasing school attendance they are absolutely right.

Oh, they are already filing motions with City Councils for approval to purge old records they aren’t legally obligated to keep. Inglewood is hosting a “Shredding party” next month to get rid of their old records.

Meh, I don’t know.  I listened to 2 Dope Queens podcast (one of the few podcasts I listened to before transitioning to e-books) and they would consistently have female, POC, LGBTQ (or all of the above) folks on that were very funny.  And not folks that I would have likely come across in other spaces.  So I think it is

so it can forever and consistently be broke…

Thanks!  That is a great idea.  I don’t know that I have the energy or time to start an amazon bookstore, but if I can get a decent amount from a small-ish number of books that might be worth it.  The barcode reader is a great idea b/c I would never take the time to type in all that info.

That is a good idea. They are not textbooks per se--and I am a good few years out of grad school--but I would imagine they are still the types of books that folks who are studying the same topic read as kind of foundational texts.  Would love for some struggling students not to have to pay for them!

There’s always a way. The main message from Kondo is if it’s going to just live in a box, what’s the point in keeping it?

Thanks!  Unfortunately none of the ones in CA are near me (shocked that none are in LA), but encouraging to see that some of our books may be of interest.  I know some folks who work with folks in prison, so perhaps I can find something less formal.  Thanks for the idea!

I am not sure how the words “grad school” and “race, class and inequality” and “advocacy” suggest wealthy to you, but go off, I guess. I would also imagine that most people with the problem of having lots of books are educated—doesn’t seem like a dumb person’s problem.  And as the responses indicate, the type of books
