What is the best thing to do with used books?
I am really flabbergasted by the comments here and the comments I have seen directed at Shaun King. This is 100% racists showing their ass.
I read the book...and I am very curious what specific thing you were discussing as being “over-explained.” Care to share? I don’t recall anything standing out to me like that.
“Letting the justice system handle it” would likely actually not have resulted in anything. Even in this case, the tip re: the actual assailant went to Shaun King who forwarded it to the police. Had this case not received national attention, who knows whether the info would have ever come to light. Especially since…
I could see this as the reason. The other alternative....that black folks are trying to stick up for R.Kelly and slide over their dollars to him in support BECAUSE of his harm to black women...is a reality I would like to hope we do not live in.
But to say “its about money” has it backwards. That explains why folks who benefit from Kelly have not distanced themselves. It does not explain why other random people are GIVING KELLY MONEY to hear his music despite what they know. That is exactly the opposite of “its about money.”
Right. It is in no way “about race,” and yet it chooses to incorporate a whole subplot about the mistreatment of the few marginal black characters and explicitly rely on the mistreatment of blacks by the “bad guy” to establish his “bad guy” bonafides. And then it chooses to show that he can overcome the bad-ness of…
Agreed. That is the part that stuck out to me the most and also seems to belie the argument by folks trying to suggest that the substance of her response actually indicated support for BLM, despite the all lives matter “faux pas.” Like “I agree that whole 3/5ths compromise thing was wrong—black lives matter just as…
I didn’t enjoy it as much as the other Black Mirror episodes. The CYOA element was cool, but it lost what was great about most of the other Black Mirror episodes—that it either created a direct analogy to something that we are experiencing now w/r/t technology in our lives, or presents a short extension to where that…
Reading the statute I don’t see how that is individual liability. Seems like the entire thing is directed to the employing agency. “Notwithstanding any other remedies, a person has a right of recovery against a peace officer’s employing law enforcement agency....Upon receipt of this affidavit, the law enforcement…
First, let me be clear. F BBQ becky and the rest of her ilk. They are racist scum and the only reason they even perceived criminality was b/c the people engaged in non-harmful, common activities were black. I have no sympathy for them or the shame that has been brought upon them as a consequence of their actions, and…
I’m glad that you ultimately did not call the cops. My issue here is that you saying that you perceived this is a real problem/threat/crime that needed to be addressed is, to me, belied by your ultimate action of encouraging him to be better at the crime, NOT to stop doing the crime. Your “correction” was to help him…
That is amazing, but also CRAZY that over a million dollars of debt could be “bought” for literally pennies on the dollar (if that!). I feel like this needs to be done on a much larger scale. I would definitely donate to that!
I mean, this kid only appeared to be ethnically Southeast Asian. He could be 3rd generation from Cleveland. Nothing to suggest he went “to another country”.
But your ultimate actions showed you never actually were concerned about this kid being a threat. You didn’t take him aside and say “Fake IDs are bad and dangerous b/c they can be used to commit serious crimes and cause real harm. You should stop” to try to convince him to stop doing what he was doing in a less…
Was this NPR or Drunk HIstory? I swear this was word for word what was on the Drunk HIstory episode featuring Nichols’ story. I guess I can learn things from Comedy Central!
We have a joint account that is connected to our budget & is used to pay for all joint things, groceries, mortgages, bills (incl student loans!), saving for retirement, saving for anniversary trip, etc.— and we both have set amounts that we deposit after we get paid and an amount that we keep separate for ourselves.…
That is exactly what we do. Our “necessities” includes everything including like long-term saving, or even saving for our 10 year anniversary trip, so the vast majority of the money is in our joint account and only minimal in our personal accounts, but still, it works for us.
I’m not certain, but I would think that if she was indicted for the higher change this would not preclude actually charging with lesser offenses at trial such as manslaughter. I would presume that is how it works, but not positive.
