I usually ask all people “Are you from (my city)?” I think that is a good question because it presumes the answer may be “yes,” which would assume non-foreign. Also, that is really what I want to know, and if not from here, gives them a chance to say it however they would like to.

Does anyone know whether past portraits are all in the standard form and these are more “creative” (for lack of a better word) than past versions? I am not able to find what the past portraits looked like. Thanks!

First, the Root has written multiple articles about the value of supporting black business—with great links, and which I also appreciate—so taking a step to support black owned bookstores seems to be directly consistent with the site’s values. They perhaps didn’t think about this in the moment of writing this article,

Thanks for this list, but it would be GREAT if the links were to a black-owned bookstore or even the authors own sites if available there. Love encouraging buying black authors but let’s also spend black dollars with black businesses if we can!

Yay! I doubt I can afford one of these trips, but I am glad to see a black business get some of these black travel dollars. I hope they try to support black-owned businesses locally as well.

I saw the headline of this article and immediately checked to see if it was written by one of the black female writers on this site. I was not surprised that it was not.

Can someone please explain twitter to me? Why would you need to block someone? Is it so they can’t send you DMs??? I am old and need help!

Never be in a movie called “Hobgoblins 2". LOL. There could not be a more fitting role for this woman.

It is correct. She went to the ends of the earth to find the Thai basil because, unbeknownst to her, it was growing right in my backyard. Thanks for trying to fact check me though.

Nope! Only ever used crockpot recipes in crockpot. I wouldn’t even start to know how to try to translate one to the other given entirely different cooking methods.

I did, but I think the “hey why does crockpot food all taste the same” thought didn’t occur to me until after I ate this chicken .

Ironically, she made this at my house and the only basil that I managed not to kill in our small garden is the Thai basil, (which has grown bountifully!) so she didn’t actually need to go anywhere. I just felt bad for her that she searched out this very specific ingredient and everything just ended up tasting exactly

So funny! I literally said this to my mother yesterday after she made some crockpot “thai” chicken (after going to the ends of the earth to find thai basil) that tasted exactly like crockpot “spanish” chicken and “teriyaki” chicken.

This movie was basically if Amelie and Splash had a baby. And then that baby inexplicably had sex with a lizard.

That dress is amazing.

And given his name, his parents and his own sense of confidence & self-worth, I am sure he is striving for more than just a “decent job.”

As I’ve said elsewhere, it’s amazing that men are super capable (way better than women, in fact!) at reading cues/signals when ability to do so translates into getting paid and asserting that you are uniquely qualified in some field (e.g. police officer, judge, negotiator/businessman, attorney), but yet the dominant
