This was my problem with Infinity War. The deaths are meaningless.

Fun fact: Harington and Leslie are both descended from relatively recent British nobility.
I think Thandie Newton and Woody Harrelson should have swapped roles. Woody dies during the heist and Thandie becomes Han’s mentor. If only so we could get more Thandie Newton.
Solo: A Star Wars Story basically did about as well open weekend as Doctor Strange and Thor: The Dark World if you count the standard weekend length. $84 Million to $85 Million respectively.
When did we start thinking that a movie that cleared 100 million domestic the first weekend is a bust? I remind you The Greatest Showman came in something like third or fourth it’s first week, but it still had a half billion dollars of transactions just by staying in the top ten for 3 months.
Oh I agree, that was a nice change of perspective (hell, Han even joins the Empire at one point and the reason he leaves is more that he doesn’t like taking orders than them doing anything wrong), but I think it would have been better with a different primary focus. Same with L3-37's droid rights, it was a solid part…
Exactly! Solo felt much more like a western or heist film to me. There’s bigger stuff in the galaxy hinted at, but you’re still very much left with the impression that you’re watching what goes on at the fringes of the galaxy and the crooks that are just trying to earn a dishonest living. It was my favorite of the…
So much this. Every article proclaiming the flop status seems to ignore that the huge budget stems from reshooting upwards of 70% of the film!
On the flip side this is probably the only Empire time film that does not really have the Empire take the role as main antagonist. Sure their presence is there throughout, but this film is the first in a while to expand on the outer rim politics a bit more.
I agree since this focused on the more smuggler end of things, which the cartoons tend to treat more of as a joke/ Pirates of the Caribbean sort of way while this film gave it a more sinister appearance.
To be fair, I believe that this one was going to be a lower budget, but then they had to go and refilm like half of it and it ballooned up to being one of the most expensive of the Star Wars films yet.
I think more people had this on their mind for the long Memorial Day weekend.
I would welcome a few smaller scale, lower budget films in the franchise with lower box office expectations and interesting ideas. I liked that Solo wasn’t about a planet killing machine or an epic battle over the soul of the Force. It’s small, intimate and fun. And it’ll get its fans in due time.
I still think this box office mess is because when they released it. Right after Avengers and Deadpool and only 5 months after TLJ. They should have just released it in December with no competition and it would have done fine. This is all Disney’s fault. I actually enjoyed this movie a lot just wish they planned this…
