Liking beers, hot dogs, sports, partying, and having a general allergy to feelings or Anything Too Serious
I'm sorry, but this is fucking awful—equal parts judgmental and condescending, with a healthy dose of know-it-all-ness thrown in for good measure. I hate when people put their ridiculous shit on everyone else and then use limited anecdotal evidence from their own lives to support it.
So... you're telling the Pope to "fuck off" precisely because he wants people to share their beliefs? You realize that, in fact, that is self-defeating if you want the Church to come around to your way of thinking. The Pope isn't telling the conservatives to speak freely, he's telling the moderates and liberals.
You realize, of course, that the Pope isn't, you know, like some sort of puppet master. I am not sure how you take the comments of a Polish archbishop and then blame on a completely different person.
Well he was pretending to be american, pretending to be a doctor and pretending to be grumpy, so there shouldn't be anything in LBP3 to remind you of that.
YAY!!! A real, honest-to-God Science writer! Jezebel, you have answered our collective prayers!!!
A wonderful PhD comic illustrates this problem: http://www.phdcomics.com/comics.php?n=1…
I think I could edit an entire book on understanding the modern world curated entirely from webcomics. I'd draw primarily xkcd and Sunday Morning Breakfast Cereal, with some Hark, A Vagrant! and Sinfest thrown in for variety.
I just think that a lot of the social ideas discussed are essentially Western constructs and in the context of Japanese culture this could be quite body positive.
Don't you think the Coupled People Are Doing It Right; Single People Are Defective narrative is hilarious?!
the most remarkable thing here is the number of federal employees using the excuse "i didn't have any work to do." actually it's probably true, not an excuse. so many federal employees having nothing to do is not surprising (slow, bloated bureaucracy is going to have plenty of employees on the payroll with no clear…
Yup. We had people throw a giant hissy fit about the Chronicles of Narnia a few years ago. I attempted to explain that those books are very thinly veiled Christian allegory and Lewis was a theologian, but no one actually cared.
Even if Tolkien hadn't been Catholic, the books are extremely relevant to Christianity. The fact that the evil comes from within and you must resist the temptation of the ring... It's very applicable.
Yes, but these are people who use "Christian" and "Catholic" to mean two very different things. As in, "Oh, Mom, you never told me George was a Christian - I thought he was Catholic!" However Christian you may be, if you're not Christian(TM)(R)(C), you're maybe slightly better than a goat-sacrificing heathen.
The thing that makes me think this is maybe not a hoax is the author's ability to identify sexual tension where no other human being would be able to see it. Why is Hermione Granger suddenly a porno character?
I agree. Cynicism is the worst quality. The rest of the list is weirdly specific and little too self-loathing.
Wow, that was unnecessarily cruel.
Agreed. I don't insist that my partner by high-achieving or high-earning, but if he isn't at least on track for that, I think it's reasonable to expect him to cultivate some of the traditionally feminine skills that always get lost in discussions about money in relationships (oddly, physical appearance is far more…
Having dated a republican at one point, dying alone doesn't seem so terrible now.
Agreed. Wanting to marry an investment banker isn't the same thing as wanting to marry someone who pulls their own goddamned weight. Yes, I'm successful and career-oriented, but I don't have the kind of income by myself on which one could support two people and a baby. Which means my partner needs to work. Not work so…
