I’ve seen plenty of managers in my life, including one right now, where 2 hour paid lunches are the norm and they go home before everyone else.... Hell I’ve been in those positions, though I take the time to make sure my staff is taken care of.

I don’t think they were arguing against managerial positions, but against carreerism and management being conflated. The first stage is obviously people getting promoted out of their own field which is just counterproductive, but above that management promotions being viewed as the Ladder of True Carreerists is really…

While I think the pay disparity issues are serious issues, I also think that managers (at least good managers) serve important roles in larger scale environments.
